On Wednesday February 18th the legal team and plantiffs (myself included) met in San Francisco to hear the 9th circuit court of appeals ruling on the Medicaid Defense Fund case.  The state of California was appealing a judgement made late last year to reverse pharmacy reimbursement cuts of 10%.

Although the court did not make a final judgement, it seemed apparent that they would rule in our favor and save Medi-cal recipients and provider pharmacies from “irrepairable harm”. Many pharmacies would not be able to survive such a large cut and surely would have closed their doors..leaving patients to scramble to find somewhere to fill their prescriptions.

A BIG THANK YOU to our amazing attornies who worked so hard –and “SORRY” to the state….you’ll have to get your money elsewhere!

Here is an excerpt from a  letter to Oprah from the Executive Director of the International Association of Compounding Pharmacists:

We want to clarify several issues raised by Dr. Lauren Streicher.

First, Dr. Streicher drew a false distinction between “FDA-approved pharmacies and non-
FDA-approved pharmacies,” and insinuated that compounding pharmacies are not approved by
the FDA. In fact, there is no such thing as an FDA-approved pharmacy. All pharmacies are
registered, inspected and regulated by state boards of pharmacy—including compounding
pharmacies….

….There are standards by which pharmacies abide to ensure the quality of their medications.
We encourage patients to ask their compounding pharmacist about the procedures they follow to
ensure the quality of the preparation. One simple question to ask is if the pharmacy sends out
samples to an outside testing lab to ensure preparations are of appropriate strength and purity.
